Businessman linked to actor Hathaway arrested for fraud

Manhattan prosecutors say an Italian businessman who has been reported as romantically linked to movie star Anne Hathaway, right, has been arrested on wire-fraud conspiracy and money laundering charges.

Bail was set at $21 million (U.S.) when Raffaello Follieri appeared in federal court yesterday.

He repeatedly interrupted his lawyer to tell her what to say, shook his head and, as a prosecutor accused him of owing various debts, called out: “We paid that.”

He is accused of falsely telling an investor that he had been appointed as the chief financial officer of the Vatican.
